In 2016 we took our string of pack goats on a trip into the Frank Church Wilderness and hiked the 55 miles Chamberlain Basin Loop, which begins and ends at the Big Creek campground.
Despite only being early June we were slammed with a record heat wave that had both us and the goats feeling like we were hiking through the Mojave Desert.
The FCW is the largest wilderness area in North America, and one of the most remote. In 10 days of hiking we only saw 5 people after we left the trail head, and 4 of those people were trail maintenance crew members; only one was a fellow backpacker.
