The beginning of the 5th century was a turbulent time for the Roman empire. There were constant invasions and sackings of the western half of the empire. The east was relatively stable throughout that time, although the largest divisions happened to be in matters of theology. During these times, Christianity remained strong even when its adherents had been undergoing so much change. The ecclesiastical rivalries and the political rivalries would eventually lead to the council of Ephesus in 431. Why did it happen? What were the christologies being defended and how did it all end? Today, we answer these questions and more as we discuss the Council of Ephesus.
