➡️ After comparing both bass players from Descendents in a recent episode, I wanted to introduce myself to Mike Watt's bass playing and instead hear two different BANDS he played in to have some comparison! Go ahead and roast me, guys - I've slept on Mike Watt and it's my own fault. I'm grateful to be brought up to speed on these amazing players, and Mike's playing displayed such an energy and fervor across both Minutemen and fIREHOSE. I discuss his multiple techniques, his blues-y note choices and funky playing style, his hybrid of fingerstyle and slap in "Brave Captain", and his really cool Fender Telecaster bass with my favorite pickup schematic, the P/J setup, which I've used exclusively for many years now. I compare and contrast his contributions in both bands and really enjoyed getting to familiarize myself with his playing style. I can't wait to dig into his work further! Better late than never...😇🙏🏼
