Gemmy 2002 Dean Martin - “That’s Amore” & “Everybody Loves Somebody”

Buckle in, this guy’s got a bit of a story lol. It starts on March 20th, 2020, when I bought him off Mercari for only $20 total. The listing contained only one low quality picture, and the description was, word for word, “sings but mouth does not move”.
He arrived tightly wrapped in a huge ball of cellophane, which was all wet with what I hope was condensation. That was a big red flag, but after looking him over I quickly learned that was the least of my worries. To start, both of his arms were snapped off (which I assume happened during shipping), the buttons on his tux were missing, and his upper body was loose. I also noticed his mouth was stuck closed, and the original staples around the neck that hold the head on were gone. I took the head off to find two bare wires inside… and no mouth mechanism at all. Apparently, someone had tried to fix this before, and had no idea what they were doing lol. The mouth and head were just glued on, both the tux and shirt had been cut and glued back together, and the body pins were missing as well as the foam pads on the shoulders. Not to mention, the motor shaft gears were split in both the arm and head mechs, the head bracket was snapped apart, and both the battery terminals and circuit board were heavily corroded with many wires off.
I actually did reach out to the seller about the description being a little misleading, but after being called a scammer I decided for $20 I wasn’t going to complain. Instead, I somehow managed to get it working using parts from my Jets Rockin’ Randall. It was a fun repair and I think it turned out alright, besides the mouth being a little loud. This is far from my favorite pop culture figure, but definitely still a great one, and I’m glad to have it. That’s really all I’ve got to say. As always, thanks for checking out the video!
