This medication is a Janus kinase, or JAK, inhibitor. It works by targeting specific enzymes involved in the signaling pathways that lead to inflammation and immune dysregulation in various autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.

This dampens the overactive immune response seen in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, COVID-19, and alopecia areata. Studies have also demonstrated anti-viral activity of Olumiant.

Olumiant tablet is taken by mouth once daily. The dosage depends on your health conditions.

The most common side effects of Olumiant are cold sores, nausea, shingles, and cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat. It also increases the risk of serious infections, blood clots, and certain cancers.
