Herewith, the original version of "Eitz Chaim", sung in many shuls (usually incorrectly!).whilst putting away the Sefer Torah. Please, listen to it and learn the right way to sing it. (edit: I don't mean to say this tune is the only correct tune, of course; just that if you do sing this particular tune, sing it the way Tanchum wrote it.)
The composer is Tanchum Portnoy, from his long-lost LP "Tanchumim", recorded during 1974 and released February 1975. The vocalist is Avraham Yanon (alias of Rabbi Alvin Wainhaus); arrangements were by Yisroel Lamm of Neginah Orchestra. Long out of print; if anyone knows where the master is, please bring it out on CD; this generation needs to know what music sounded like before the DX-7 was invented.
