We received a call about a honey bee swarm and when we saw it, it was one of the biggest swarms we have seen. This is part one of our bee rescue. The bees were on the trunk of a tree and we set up our gear. We used a blanket and decided to use two complete hives since it was a large swarm and we did not know if it was one swarm or two that combined together. We eventually had to sugar water them, brush them, and smoke them to coach them in. After sometime we finally decided to leave the hives overnight because they were very slow to go into the hive. We left the choice for the bees. Accept going into the hive, stay on the tree, or find somewhere else to go.
As our mentor has always said, "The bees didn't read the books."
