Proteomic changes correlate with biological aging, and can predict disease and mortality better than chronological (calendar) age. Nir Barzilai reviewed current knowledge on this topic, including the significant role of gender – with over twice as many proteins age-associated in males, suggesting that greater proteomic stability may underlie the superior longevity of women – and the comparably better stability seen in centenarians, which has inspired the SuperAgers initiative to amass the world’s largest cohort of individuals aged 95 and older.
