What Charles Cornell missed about Sk8er Boi

Recently, ‪@CharlesCornellStudios‬ made a video on the song "Sk8er Boi." If you haven't seen his video or listened to the original song, do that here:

This is a song that I have strong music theory feelings about, and actually decided to make a video about that! Specifically because I had a personal experience with it, described in the video. Charles did an awesome job being excited about this song and noticing cool stuff, but I feel like he didn't articulate why this songs' chord progressions and vocabulary are so unique. It has to do with how the song interacts between two different key centers (D and F) and widens the contrast between them as we progress further into the song. Charles is already on to his next video, but maybe this addendum will matter enough to people for them to check it out! There's lots of interesting circumstances to talk about in 12-TET but other people seem to generally be doing that leg work already, so that's why I don't chime in on those conversations as much. What do YOU think I missed in THIS video? ;)
