We started the day by motoring up to Martham Boats having slept moored up at Potter Heigham. Once at the boat yard, we delivered the mountain of cushions, did our ablutions, and took onboard the Pilot for the low bridge.

Then we shot the Potter Heightam bridges (only a minor scrape to the mast) and the pilot left us on the other side.

With the wind against us we motored up to the moorings on Read Dyke for a spot of lunch cooked by Vlad. Whilst he was concocting, Ollie, Marc and George went on a quest to explore an abandoned wind pump.

Lunch digested, we double reefed and set the mainsail for the first time, thankfully we made the tight turn downwind in the narrow channel.

Running dead downwind towards Thurne we had to put a couple of gybes in to prevent any accidental crash gybes.
We then headed up round the bend and had to motor assist as we went directly upwind again in heavy traffic. After that bend we managed to sail all the way to Saint Bennett's Abbey moorings where we dropped the sails to motor upwind again heading towards Barton Broad on the River Ant.

Our biggest obstacle on this stretch was Ludham Bridge which we managed to overcome on the fly as there were no free mooring spaces for dropping the mast.

We had a relaxing cruise up the Ant in the late afternoon and topped it off by climbing the mast.

Once we arrived at Barton broad, we chose a cosy corner in the lee of the rushes and sat back to watch the sailing club on their evening drift as the wind dropped. As Marc made his Chilli for dinner, George made a raft out of all the fenders.

Finally, Marc and Dan stayed up late to see the night whilst everyone else went to bed.
