SleepyOni: DIY Dust Mask - Too Lazy For Sanding Edition!

Wherein I
build a custom-fit dust mask for my weirdly shaped head. Every dustmask and/or respirator I've ever used has failed to make a decent seal, as I have a gigantic noggin. Decided to just make my own.


Built from Smooth-On's Free Form Air Epoxy Dough, on top of a partial lifecast I had laying around. This material is fantastic - durable, incredibly lightweight, can be trimmed/sanded when cured, just really good stuff. I used a combo of wire mesh and sheet styrene for interior structure. Completely lost patience with trying to trim and smooth the cured surface, so tried heat-forming some EVA around all the curves; discovered this is a GREAT method for covering up a whole bunch of inconsistencies.


Air filters are pvc pipe; I cut appropriately-sized circles out of another dust mask, and they're held in between two matched pieces of pipe. Not perfect, but it'll do for me.
