Homeowner Rochanne Douglas rented her property for a short-term stay, but the tenant, Shadija Romero, allegedly exploited a D.C. law that grants full tenant rights after just 30 days of occupancy.
This loophole allowed Romero to stay for months without paying rent, forcing Douglas out of her own home while racking up massive legal fees, mortgage payments, and utility bills.
