At Pelican Harbor Seabird Station in Miami, Florida, wildlife expert Jeff Corwin reunites with a very special patient — a rescued tern with an incredible survival story. Months ago, Jeff and his team discovered the bird while diving on a coral restoration project. When it refused to fly away, they realized something was wrong — X-rays later revealed two fishing hooks lodged inside its body.
Thanks to the expert care of Yaritza and the Pelican Harbor team, the tern made a full recovery after weeks of antibiotics, rehabilitation, and observation. Today, Jeff returns to witness its emotional release back into the wild.
This story is a powerful reminder of how discarded fishing gear threatens Florida’s seabirds — and how rescue and rehabilitation centers are giving them a second chance.
