EU Issues Stark Warning On Greenland, Tariffs And U.S. Pressure

The European Union delivered a strong message on Greenland’s sovereignty, Arctic security and transatlantic relations, warning that “the law of the strongest cannot prevail over the rights of the weakest.”

Speaking amid rising geopolitical tensions, EU leadership stressed that Greenland is not merely a strategic territory rich in critical raw materials, but home to a free and sovereign people whose future must be decided by Greenlanders alone.

The remarks come as concerns grow over tariff threats, Arctic militarisation and great-power competition, with the EU rejecting security-based tariffs as “simply wrong” and incompatible with existing EU-U.S. agreements.

The bloc also announced plans for a major European investment package for Greenland, focused on infrastructure, economic development and Arctic security, while reaffirming cooperation with the United States through NATO.

Despite signalling readiness to defend its interests, the EU said it remains committed to constructive engagement with Washington, warning that alliances cannot be reduced to transactions and that international law must apply everywhere — from Ukraine to Greenland and Gaza.
