An Update on the Staveley Waterside Development

We're back on the Chesterfield Canal for a progress update on the Staveley Waterside development.

Scheduled to complete in April, the building work is almost complete.

Staveley Waterside is a significant development project in Staveley, Derbyshire, situated along the Chesterfield Canal. It is part of the larger Staveley Town Deal, which aims to regenerate the area and restore key historical features, including the canal. The project is focused on transforming the land around the Staveley Town Canal Basin, creating a vibrant, mixed-use development that will include residential, commercial, and leisure spaces.

The development is closely tied to the restoration of the Chesterfield Canal, specifically the effort to rebuild and reopen the missing 9-mile section of the canal. This will not only improve the local economy but also reconnect the canal network, which was once a vital part of transport and industry in the region. The project aims to preserve the canal’s industrial heritage while enhancing the local community with modern infrastructure, green spaces, and improved accessibility.

Staveley Waterside, in its full scope, will contribute to reviving the area’s transport geography, bolster tourism, and provide much-needed regeneration around the canal. It is an exciting development that celebrates both the historical significance of the Chesterfield Canal and the future growth of the Staveley area.

The Chesterfield Canal Masterplan is a comprehensive vision and strategy for the restoration, development, and revitalization of the Chesterfield Canal, which runs through Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. The canal, which was once an essential part of the region’s transport network during the Industrial Revolution, fell into disrepair over time. The masterplan is focused on the restoration of the canal and its surrounding areas, with a particular emphasis on reconnecting the missing 13-mile section between Staveley and Chesterfield.
