On April 30th 2013 Alex Gavan made the First Romanian Ascent of Shisha Pangma (8027m) in the Tibet Himalayas, following a line resulted from a mix of Austrian (1980) and Ochoa (Spain, 2006) routes. As in his previous ascents of Cho Oyu-8201m ( Second Romanian Ascent), Gasherbrum 1-8068m (First Romanian Ascent), Makalu-8463m ( First Romanian Ascent) and Manaslu-8156m (Second Romanian Ascent), he used no supplementary oxygen. He reached the top on the 13th day after arriving in Advanced Base Camp at 5600m. Not finding his way back due to snowstorm, Alex had to bivouac alone out in the open at around 7800m. Miraculously, he not only survived but got along with no frostbite or edema. It was a quite fast ascent for an 8000m summit given the fact he had no prior acclimatization. This is an ascent of the MAIN SUMMIT, the highest point of the mountain and not of the Central Summit. A Central Summit ascent cannot be claimed as a real ascent of Shisha Pangma.
