I'm going to be posting some videos from our property in far northern Maine over the next few months. The property is 225 acres and was once a large farm that produced potatoes and grain in the early 1900s through the 1970s. It has since been abandoned, and we are working on restoring several different types of habitat throughout the property. These habitats include grasslands, spruce/fir forests, and fish habitats. I plan to document this work over the next year or so.
This video follows John Carrier of Carrier Logging as he works with us and our forester to restore spruce/fir habitat by selectively cutting poplar (aspen) and over-mature spruce/fir. This will ensure that regenerating trees receive enough light and nutrients to flourish. John is an amazing logger who takes great care in his work to stay safe and to do as little damage to regenerating trees as possible. We are glad to have him and our forester, Bruce Wilkins, on the job!
