Did you guys know that the color green (which is the color of an emerald gemstone) represents growth, reflection, peace and healing, among many others? I really think that's how the Emerald City was portrayed in this song.

Also, in relation to Elphaba and Glinda going there, the cool blue tempering the green colors of the jewel, apparently symbolizes a 'steadfast (unwavering or loyal) bond'~
