Build a Beautiful Garden Arbor for Under $50 | Step-by-Step DIY Walkthrough
In this video, I’ll show you how I built a budget-friendly wooden arbor using just two 4x4x8 treated posts, a couple of 2x4s, and some 1x2 boards — total cost was under $50.
This DIY arbor is perfect for wisteria, roses, or any climbing plant and creates a simple but classy walkthrough entry to any garden or backyard space.
I show the full process from start to finish — from setting the 4x4s in the ground, attaching the 2x4s across the top, to cutting and installing the 1x2s to create the final arbor look.
Materials I Used:
(2) 4x4x8 treated posts
(2) 2x4x8 boards (cut down to fit span)
(3) 1x2 boards (cut into small crosspieces)
Screws, basic tools — That’s it!
Each 2x4 overhangs about 6 ¾ inches past the 4x4s for a more finished look, and the 1x2s are spaced across the top for vine support.
This is a great weekend DIY project for any gardener, homesteader, or backyard DIYer wanting a functional, low-cost arbor that actually looks good.
Wisteria vines, get ready. 🌿
