The Consistent Attack On The Igbo Identity Of Bonny
In this video we look into the situation of the ethnic Igbos of Bonny Island. Bonny is an area in Rivers state where the people of Ubani are found natively. However, since the end of the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, the Ubani people who are the indigenous people have been subjected to the most inhuman treatment from the other ethnic group who are the Ibani Ijaw people. The Ubani people have been put under the control of the Ibani people who are secondary occupants of Bonny Island. The Ubani people have been so subjugated that they take up Ibani names to survive on the island. Hardly will an Ubani son or daughter take up a native Igbo name in any official documentation. The Ubani people, like any Igbo group in Nigeria, have been extremely marginalised, humiliated, and dehumanised.
