Tied here from the illustration in Favorite Flies and Their Histories by Mary Orvis Marbury published in 1892
Hook: #10 sproat
Thread: claret (or red silk and lacquered head)
Tail: three brown hackle barbs
Body: red dubbing (wool)
Hackle: brown webby rooster
Wings: wild turkey tail tips
Head cement recipe:
Goop
Xylene (epoxy thinnner)
Instructions:
Fill a quart jar half full with Xylene
Squeeze a tube of Goop into the Xylene
Shake until the Goop is dissolved; add Xylene to desired consistency
Apply with a pin or needle dipped in the liquid
• Making Flex Cement for fly tying
