In February 2017, a female Malayalam actress was abducted and sexually assaulted in a moving vehicle. The shocking incident drew nationwide attention and sparked protests within the film community and beyond. Actor Dileep was arrested in July 2017, after a long eight-year trial, the Ernakulam Principal District & Sessions Court acquitted Dileep of all charges in December 2025, ruling that the prosecution could not conclusively prove his involvement. Six other accused, including Pulsar Suni, were found guilty of multiple offences related to the assault.
