Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the most important festivals in Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism). It marks the victory of Lord Shri Ram over Ravan, symbolizing the eternal truth that dharma (righteousness) always wins over adharma (evil).
Every year, during Navratri’s conclusion, huge effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad are burnt in different parts of India. This ritual is popularly known as Ravan Dehen (Ravana Dahan). But do you know the deep significance behind this celebration? Why is Ravan, despite being one of the most knowledgeable beings of his time, burnt every year? Let’s understand in detail.
Ravana, the mighty king of Lanka, was a scholar of the Vedas and a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Yet, his arrogance and desire for power led him to abduct Mata Sita, the wife of Lord Rama.
