Left foot braking can be helpful when crawling up obstacles while driving vehicles with automatic transmissions. It helps the driver maintain speed to a "crawl" and keeps the vehicle from rolling back and/or rocking back and forth. Thus, minimizing the chances of damage to vital components and/or the body. If you have ever driven a vehicle with a manual transmission, this is essentially the same idea as using the parking brake to "cheat" when starting from a dead stop going uphill.
