PastFX Stereo Chorus PX65: John Frusciante's BSSM Pedal Reimagined!

Today we have another gem from PastFX over in Brisbane, Australia! This time, they've resurrected a forgotten gem (well...it's been garnering attention in recent years) in the DOD FX65. As is their way, the end result gives you the exact tones of the original unit, but with a load of extra functionality.

The three original controls - Speed, Delay Time and Depth - all have extended ranges, so the plethora of tones available are significantly expanded from the OG. Plus, you have a volume control to adjust for the level drop; a Blend control to bring some of your dry signal back in; and a Vibrato switch to kill the dry signal and leave you with just the wobbly stuff. Internally too, you get two dip-switches to convert the PX65 to the DOD FX62 circuit (the bass version)...sonically they're very similar, but if you're a bassist, this might be worth its weight in gold.

But the coolest part of this pedal is the Dave/Andy switch. Demo fella Dave Simpson is a huge fan of the original - so the 'stock' setup is found in Dave mode. But what some people have found over the years - especially Andy Martin - is that the two output jacks have a slightly different sound to each other, as the Wet element of your signal is out of phase on the top jack, and in phase on the bottom. So, when running the pedal in mono, you can get different results using the different jacks. Now, rather than having to unplug your mono output and switch outputs, you can flip the switch into Andy mode, and the two jacks are reversed...giving you both sounds out of both jacks, should you want them. Cool, eh?
