What caused accident in Guwahati that killed 7 engineering students?

In the aftermath of the tragic road accident that killed 7 engineering students in Guwahati, Director General of Police GP Singh hinted that the occupants of the vehicle may have been in an inebriated state, as the stretch of the road where the mishap took place is straight and well-lit. Promising to step up vigilance against drunk drivers to avert such incidents in future, Singh appealed to the guardians and protorial staff in colleges to dissuade students from taking the wheel in a drunk state.

From what we have observed prima facie, alcohol intoxication appears to be cause of the accident," G S Singh said. "However, I cannot confirm anything as of yet as there will be an investigation into the matter. I have asked the CP, DCP, and DTO to ascertain the cause. We haven't seen any other cause; it was a straight stretch of road," he said.

"We keep frequenting this area, and it is always well-lit. There is no visible distraction that could have caused an accident. There is a diversion leading towards Guwahati, but that is on the left side of thee road, while the accident took place on the right side," added the top cop.
