A versatile all-around trumpet with a personality! Hub Van Laar B3 Trumpet ACB Show and Tell

As you know there are some incredible makers in Europe and especially in the Netherlands! Hub Van Laar is a brilliant craftsman who is making some absolutely wonderful horns not only visually but also in terms of the way they play. This horn which recently came into the shop on consignment is no exception. Amazing valves, incredibly versatile, huge sound palette and color spectrum, wonderful intonation... who could ask for much more!

This horn just came into the shop and it's a very sweet playing trumpet! It has incredible valves, super tight and fast! The horn plays with a broad sound but is incredibly agile and brightens up very well. It's extremely versatile. This particular one has two Saturn water keys and a cool patina. Two small cosmetic blemishes that I see:

the lower knuckle from the tuning slide leg into the valve casing has had some dent work and it's fairly visible (see pics)

The horn's bell has also had some dent work done but they did a good job on the work.

The finish has a clear lacquer over it, comes with an additional rounded tuning slide, and it recently got an alignment and cleaning from Mike Del Quadro.



B3
One could say that the B3 trumpet possesses the best of both worlds: somewhere between the OIRAM and the more commercial models.
In the high register the B3 has a natural, bright sound and it is easy to attain a good projection and sizzle when playing loudly without losing the expressive and exciting sound in the middle and low registers, not to forget the brilliant sound when playing softly.
