In 2017 the Buskaid Ensemble travelled to Colombia for a collaboration with El Colegio del Cuerpo (https://www.elcolegiodelcuerpo.org) Its Director, Alvaro Restrepo, created NEGRA! (ANGER!), as a tribute to the life of Nina Simone, using her recorded speaking and singing voice. His vision was to present a performance of NEGRA with Buskaid musicians and Mathapelo Matabane singing some Simone songs. This took place in Cartagena’s beautiful Adolfo Mejia Theatre.
This performance was filmed later in 2017 at a concert in the Linder Auditorium, Johannesburg.
The Buskaid Music School is situated in Diepkloof Soweto, and offers high quality string tuition to the local, less privileged community. In 2022 Buskaid celebrates its 25th Anniversary.
