Megalovania For Brass Quintet and Drum Set

"Megalovania" was written by Toby Fox. This theme is most notably from the game Undertale (in which Toby Fox also made, along with Temmie). Fox originally composed "Megalovania" for a hack for EarthBound called Radiation's Halloween Hack, which he made. The theme would later be reused in vol. 6 of a webcomic known as Homestuck. Fox's theme was never really that popular, until he used it in his hit game Undertale. The game was so big that it caught the attention of the people over at Nintendo. They wanted to include one of Undertale's most beloved characters, Sans, as a Mii costume in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. A remixed version of "Megalovania" came with the Sans Mii Costume.

I used aspects from both the original and the Ultimate remix. I ended up getting too carried away with the arrangement. There are a handful of original ideas of my own I wanted to mix in. I experimented with other ideas, which then ultimately got cut, but it was for the better. I originally had a solo for trumpet 1, starting from rehearsal mark N and ending 8 measures after mark O. It included motifs other notable themes from Undertale, like "Heartache," "Bonetrousle," "Your Best Friend" and "Spear of Justice." I experimented with another idea at rehearsal mark F. During the Sans fight in Undertale, there are moments where the game cuts to a black screen, along with the music, for a split second during some of Sans's attack. I tried to use that idea with the music in my arrangement, but sadly, it didn't work out quite as I expected.
This arrangement is pretty difficult. I assume it would take a good amount of rehearsals to nail, even for professionals (probably not). There aren't many places for the players to catch a breath, especially in the tuba part. I hadn't attend for that to be the case, but now that I think of it, it's really fitting for this specific song. Sans always tells the player that they are going to have a bad time, so I think it's quite fitting that the players playing my arrangement probably will have a bad time.. In a good way.. Hopefully..
