CN re-trucked 38 MLW RS-18s with A-1-A trucks and de-rated them to 1400hp in 1975 and 1976. They were used on lightweight branch lines and in yards mainly in Atlantic Canada and Quebec. This video shows them at work in yard and transfer service in the Halifax area. At about 9 m 30s two units are sling shunting two cabooses and in the final clip at 33:15 a single unit almost stalls. With sanders going, the wheel slip alarm ringing and the speedometer bouncing between 0 and 30 mph, the engineer closes the throttle one notch and then opens it again as he struggles to get his train up the incline.
