This footage captures a rare moment with the Rhinoceros Hornbill at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, filmed with my OM System OM-1 and the M.Zuiko 100-400mm telephoto lens.
This remarkable bird has created a wave of excitement across Singapore. According to reports, this is likely the first genuinely wild Rhinoceros Hornbill seen in the country in more than a hundred years. Researchers believe it may have come from the populations in southern Johor, possibly from Gunung Pulai or Gunung Panti.
Seeing such a large and iconic bird here feels almost unreal. Many photographers and birdwatchers gathered at Eagle Point recently to witness its presence, and I am grateful to have seen it perched calmly in the mangrove landscape. Moments like this remind me how connected Singapore is to the forests just across the strait, and how wildlife still finds its way to our shores.
