Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the Muslim community not to let itself be reduced to a mere vote bank or play the role of a political kingmaker, but to focus instead on development and meaningful reform. He emphasized the importance of rational thinking in confronting issues such as the mismanagement of institutions like the Waqf Board and regressive practices like triple talaq. The Muslim community must rise above victimhood narratives and political polarization, much like how Kashmiri Pandits faced adversity without resorting to communal blame. True progress lies in embracing education, reform, and unity under the vision of Viksit Bharat—an India driven by inclusive development rather than division. Role models within minority communities play a crucial part in this transformation, guiding collective progress through empowerment rather than grievance.

About the Speaker:
Shehla Rashid is an academic with research interests in technology and politics, as well as a well-known voice in youth activism in India. She is a former student leader and the first Kashmiri woman to be elected as an office-bearer of the JNU Students’ Union in 2015. An accomplished author and speaker, she wrote Role Models: Inspiring Stories of Muslim Achievers (Penguin, 2024) showcasing successful Muslim figures in India.
