Art of Freedom at The Ohio State University performed a dabke at Taste of OSU 2024. Dabke is a traditional folk dance popular in Arab countries of the Levantine region. While dabke is performed in countries such as Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, it holds a strong significance to the country of Palestine. This dance is viewed as a form of cultural resistance by preserving Palestinian heritage while signifying the hopes and struggles of Palestinians. Performers lock arms and stomp in unison to unite even during times of difficulty. More specifically, the song used reflects the hardships of living in the diaspora while yearning for their homeland.
