Cleaning the Hydor Professional 350 Canister. The video gives an idea as to what is involved. The four trays in the unit are filled (bottom to top): A single wide spaced layer of ceramic biological filter media to act as a standoff to allow good space for large waste to accumulate with a medium porous sponge; a second tray with a thin layer of polyester filter wool and a fine sponge; a third tray with granulated activated carbon and a good amount of polyester filter wool; and a fourth tray with ceramic biological filter media.
We clean the canister on a monthly basis but may be able to extend that time to 45 days in future since the current mix of mechanical filter media appears to be doing a better than adequate job.
