Thanksgiving/Christmas & Easter Cactus Bud & Flower Drop

Talking bout my Schlumbergera Truncata and everything in this video applies to the common relatives to it, the Christmas cactus and Easter cactus. A frequently asked question about these houseplants is, "why is my christmas cactus dropping it's flower buds?" Bud drop, or bud blast normally occurs as a result from extreme changes to the plant's environment. Temperature swings, being overwatered, being under-watered, dry air etc. are all contributing factors to why a christmas cactus, and other plants like orchids will drop their flower buds. Dying flowers on christmas cactus doesn't always mean the plant is done blooming. Sometimes they are still in their bloom cycle and will put out some new flowers. How to stop bud blast/how to stop dying flowers or flower buds.... unfortunately once the process has started it cannot be reversed. I do go over possibly triggering christmas cactus to bloom and flower again however it is more important to understand how to prevent bud blast from happening. This all has to do with how to pick out a healthy plant. NEVER buy a succulent or cactus that has wet soil! If there are extreme temperature differences between inside and out then wrap the plant heavily before taking it to the car from the store and then into the home. Water the plants slowly, let the faucet drip the water into the soil and be sure it is room temperature water and neither hot or cold. Keep the plants away from drafts and vents where temperatures will shift abruptly. .. I forgot to mention those last two sentences in the video. oops! These easy to grow plants are a tropical cactus that I care for in similar manner to most of my succulents, except i give them a little bit more water and humidity. Christmas cactus, thanksgiving cactus, holiday cactus, whatever you want to call them are excellent plants and typically are forgiving as well as easy to grow indoors. Schumbergeras are one of my favorite plants for the home and garden!
