Ian Scarfe heads to Santa Cruz, California, for rehearsals and performances with the Santa Cruz Symphony.
The big piece on the program for this show is Stravinsky's ballet "Petrushka" from 1911 - a famously challenging work for the orchestra that features a wicked piano part!
Scarfe brings us "in the practice room" at orchestra rehearsals, and shares the history of the music, the story being told on stage and in the music, and highlights specific challenges.
In particular, he discusses the piano technique needed to play the famous "Russian Dance" at the end of Part One.
