Do you know how to explain why a material gains static charge after rubbing against another material? Well here’s how.
First I explain how the atoms in the material play a part in static charge, then show how electrons from atoms move to cause materials to gain a positive or negative charge. Finally I cover what to say in exams and mistakes to avoid.
This explanation is written from my experience of AQA GCSE Physics, however it is also suitable for the OCR, Edexcel, WJEC and CIE GCSEs and some iGCSEs. Check your exam specification if you are unsure.
