Yiyuan Garden, a classical garden in Suzhou, is located at No.43 Renmin Road (now No.1265) in the urban area, with an existing area of 6,270 square meters. Yiyuan Garden, built in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, is divided into two parts: east and west. The old part of the garden is the ancestral hall, and the south part is accessible to houses. Because the garden was built late, it absorbed the strengths of various gardens, such as the cloister, Yuanyang Hall, rockery and stone boat. In 1963, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Suzhou, and in 1982 it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. Yiyuan Garden was built in the late Qing Dynasty from 1874 to 1882. Gu Wenbin of Shaotai Road in Ningshao, Zhejiang Province built it on the site of Wu Kuan's old house in Shangshu in Ming Dynasty for nine years, and it cost 202,000 yuan to build it. Taking the meaning of "brothers are happy" in The Analects of Confucius, it was named Yiyuan.
