There is a widespread lack of understanding in the design community about the field issues that are unique to post-tensioned concrete construction. The speaker has accumulated years of first-hand knowledge and experience about what goes wrong in the field. This seminar represents efforts on his part to prevent perpetuation of the problems that attendees are bound to benefit from. The scope of the seminar includes elevated post-tensioned slabs and beams as well as post-tensioned foundation systems. The focus is on field issues that often arise, which may affect the performance of post-tensioned structures. The layout of the strands and the interaction of the tendons with the penetrations required by the plumber, electrician, and other trades are covered. The seminar primarily consist of construction photographs to highlight what an engineer should look for during observation and what can occur if corrective measures are not taken. Designers benefit greatly from this seminar, because it makes them aware of measures they can take in the design phase to keep eventual field problems from occurring.
