I restored this gloriously 90s chrome Univega to it's former glory

This is (I believe) a 1996 Univega Via de Oro.
It was considered a 'hybrid' bike for its time. It's made from pulse welded aluminum and is pretty stinkin' light.
I purchased this bike for less than $100. I had to purchase a new rear wheel as the one on it was beyond repair. I am not a fan of grip shifters so when I converted to a 1x drivetrain I swapped the shifter out for a Shimano Deore trigger shifter.
The handlebar was badly bent on one end. I am fairly certain this bike did not get much use but was rather buried under something heavy in storage. I was able to trim the handlebars and salvage them. Unfortunately the super neat Cane Creek Bar ends could not be saved.
The original cables were in fantastic condition so I just reused them for the brakes. The brake levers would barely move until a little of wd-40 brought them back to like new function.
I've made a few significant changes to the bike since I finished filming. I got higher performance brake levers, wider bars, and a shorter stem, as well as swapping out the crankset with a larger chainring. The bike is technically too large for me (I'm 5'11) but I love the way it rides and it's super comfortable so I have put down quite a few miles on it so far.
Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy my video.
