If you've spent any time looking at cryptocurrencies and web3, chances are you've heard the term "Smart Contract", but what actually are they? Well Smart Contracts, first proposed in the 1990s by Nick Szabo, are the programs that power decentralized applications. They allow two parties to verify, authenticate and act without needing a trusted third-party. NFTs and most crypto tokens are basically just smart contracts. Smart contracts are most commonly deployed on the Ethereum network, as it is the largest networks and was one of the first general smart contract blockchain platform.
Smart contracts are also available on other networks, including the Polygon network, which is what we will be working with today. We'll take a look at writing and deploying contracts with Solidity and Remix and then actually walk through building and using a simple smart contract.
