How to make Gypsy Tart. Gypsy tart is a regional UK dessert, mostly served in schools in the county of Kent. It is not widely known outside of Kent, but those that grew up eating it love it. It is believed to have been created by this kind old lady who made the recipe using whatever she had left in her kitchen cupboard to feed hungry Gypsy children. When I had it in school, it was always served with a slice of green apple and to this day, I do not know why.
Ingredients: 200g muscovado sugar, 1 can evaporated milk, shortcrust pastry. Butter for lining tray and serve with a slice of green apple.
