In 1984 Apple released a 16 color RGB monitor for both the Apple IIe and the Apple /// computers. This monitor, dubbed the Applecolor Monitor 100, was to improve the visual experience for Apple users by reducing the 'colour bleed' of the Apple II's composite graphics, as well as yielding more colors, up to 16 in total. It was also offered as a color option for the Apple ///, a computer primarily aimed at the business market.
The monitor did not sell well and consequently today is a rare collector item. This is a unit I acquired a few months ago and thought I would show off a bit, using both an Apple IIe and the considerably rarer Apple ///. The video will do side-by-side comparisons of the IIe's composite and RGB enhanced graphics, and consider whether the Applecolor Monitor 100 was worth the nearly $900 upgrade cost.
