Situated just 1km from Howick, our 900 hectare reserve starts at the base of the majestic Howick Falls and follows the course of the uMngeni River, passing through beautiful mist-belt grasslands and indigenous forests. The reserve features panoramic views, diverse walking trails and mountain biking routes, guided walks (including stargazing and full moon walks), adventure activities and a variety of animal and birdlife making it a paradise for nature lovers.
WESSA launched the uMngeni Valley Project in 1976 and today our outdoor education centre is one of the largest non-governmental environmental education projects in South Africa, with thousands of students participating in courses each year.
