The first phase of this boss on any super low damage run is always terrible because you basically do nothing and just wait for the red eyed one to do all the damage as you will never do enough damage yourself for it to be worthwhile.
Many years ago I did a fists only no roll fight of this boss and this kill I would say is comparable to that fight, you do slightly more damage but you can't backstab with a torch so I would say they are about equal in difficulty.
