Leo the Great is best known for his contribution to the fourth ecumenical Council at Chalcedon, but his experience with synods was much broader and deeper.
These are some of the key concepts addressed by Msgr. Hans Feichtinger, on October 8, 2024, in his discussion entitled "What Are Synods For - An Account from Leo the Great." This talk was part of the ongoing series of Patristic Talks organized by the Pontifical Faculty of Theology at St. Augustine’s Seminary.
Msgr. Feichtinger, Adjunct Professor of the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology at St. Augustine’s Seminary, teaches Patristic Theology and Ancient Philosophy. He explored Leo’s involvement in synods, with a particular emphasis on how this relates to his role as Roman Pope and to leadership in the church.
