Proving Equivalent fractions with simple diagrams.
Equivalent fractions are fractions that represent the same part of a whole, even though the numerical values may be different. To find equivalent fractions, you can multiply or divide both the numerator (top number) and the denominator (bottom number) of a fraction by the same nonzero number. Here's a simple example:
Original Fraction: 1/2
Equivalent Fractions:
Multiply both the numerator and denominator by 2: (12)/(22) = 2/4
Multiply both the numerator and denominator by 3: (13)/(23) = 3/6
Multiply both the numerator and denominator by 4: (14)/(24) = 4/8
All of these fractions (1/2, 2/4, 3/6, 4/8) are equivalent because they represent the same portion of a whole. You can continue this process indefinitely.
In general, if you have a fraction a/b, where "a" and "b" are integers and "b" is not equal to zero, then any fraction (na)/(nb), where "n" is a nonzero integer, is an equivalent fraction.
