Think your Jeep’s transmission fluid lasts forever? Think again.
👇 See below for the full list of oil, filters, and tools you’ll need to do this yourself.
Also, check out my playlist on the Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator Transmission Series if you want your transmission to last 300,000 miles or more—that’s my goal for my own Jeep.

Here’s how I changed the ZF 8-speed fluid on my 2024 Wrangler Rubicon X (ZF 8HP / 850RE) — following Jeep and ZF service-manual procedures, plus smarter methods ZF never covered.
In this video, I show how to change the transmission fluid on a 2024 Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon X with the ZF 8-speed automatic (8HP 850RE). We’ll cover tools, torque specs, and step-by-step instructions, plus a smarter way to check fluid level than the factory Jeep/ZF method
💧🔩Fluids & Parts:
• Mopar ZF Fluid / Oil – (Need 6): I’ve had good luck buying this from this Amazon seller - https://amzn.to/457CNDw
• Filter Only — Mopar Part # 68417054AB
The filters sold on Amazon aren’t genuine Mopar. In my opinion, this filter doesn’t need to be replaced every time — I change it about every 60,000 miles. If you do replace it, I recommend buying directly from Mopar, a Jeep dealer, or a trusted parts vendor.
• Pan gasket only – Mopar Part #: 68362042AA: (see comment for “Filter only” above)
• Complete Pan + Filter + Gasket Kit – Mopar Part #: 68362041AC: (see comment for “Filter only” above)
🛠 Tools:
• Fluid Pump (fits standard Mopar fluid containers): https://amzn.to/457CHvE
• 5-Liter Measuring Pitcher: https://amzn.to/4qhGi2M
• Drain Pan: https://amzn.to/3N7bC5I (Or use a large storage bin from Home Depot to keep things mess-free — just add a funnel and containers to capture the oil for recycling.)
• Breaker Bar: These are great because they have both 1/2" and 3/8" drives in one tool! and 24 inches long - https://amzn.to/458nV7P
• Ratchets:
• 3/8” Drive Ratchet – https://amzn.to/4jzWDNL
• 1/4” Drive Ratchet – https://amzn.to/3NElfZB
• Sockets & Bits Used in the Video:
1/4” 10 mm socket - https://amzn.to/4aTy0cA
3/8” 18 mm socket - https://amzn.to/4svFdGd
8 mm Hex bit - https://amzn.to/4jAsJcc
1/4” T40 Torx Bit – https://amzn.to/4pDrTwL
• Torque Wrenches:

• 3/8” Drive Torque Wrench – https://amzn.to/4bsdKyS
