John Ireland - Intrada (Miniature Suite) - Ben Bloor

Intrada, the first movement from the 'Miniature Suite by John Ireland, performed by Ben Bloor in a live concert on the 4 manual, 71 stop 1969 Rushworth & Dreaper organ of Chester Cathedral on Thursday 13th February 2025.

John Ireland was organist of Holy Trinity Sloane Square, and later St Luke’s Chelsea, and studied with Stanford at the Royal College of Music. Most of his organ works date from early in his life - the Miniature Suite was penned when he was 25. He had just started the job in Chelsea and claimed these works were 'for his own use'.
The whole suite is written in a very light style. The Intrada sets the scene for what is to come. The phrases fit very comfortably into 4 bars, content not to rock the boat or to raise the volume above mezzo forte.
