How to Make a Puppet Stage from a U-Haul Grand Wardrobe Cardboard Box!

You will need:
U-haul Grand Wardrobe Box
Utility knife
Measuring tape
Straight edge
Marker
Scrap cardboard
8 clothespins
Scissors
5 ft of clothesline
4 ft x 19” fabric
Paint - poster or acrylic
Paintbrush


1. Cut straps off of box
2. Recycle metal curtain rod
3. Cut side of box open
4. Lay it flat with writing side up
5. Put scrap cardboard down to protect the floor
6. Cut the bottom flaps off (or reinforce the flaps for taller stage.)
7. Mark the window on the writing side of the box
8. Mark the tabs
9. Mark the folds for the shelf
10. Cut out the sides and the top of the window
11. Score the folds (the bottom and middle of the window)
12. Mark the slots and cut them out
13. Put down scrap cardboard to protect the floor for painting
14. Paint! Dark color recommended to hide writing
15. Cut out a piece of fabric - 19” x 4 feet
16. Mark a spot 5” from the front at the top fold of the puppet stage
17. Use scissors to make a hole
18. Cut off end of clothesline
19. Thread clothesline through hole
20. Tie a knot in the clothesline
21. Repeat on the other side so the clothesline stretches across the back of the stage
22. Use clothespins to attach fabric to rope. Fold fabric over the rope about 2”.
23. Fold top flaps over and secure with clothespins
24. Attach spare cardboard to top with clothespins to get rid of saggy roof.
